MATCH PREVIEW | Parramatta Eels vs South Sydney Rabbitohs

TEAM FORM GUIDE
Parramatta Eels
Parramatta promised to deliver so much in 2019 though have failed to do so far. They sit in 8th place with five wins and six losses in what has been a very inconsistent season. It doesn’t get much easier as they face the top of the table Rabbitohs, however, the home side will like their chances against the visitors who are struggling to field a side due to injuries and Origin.

South Sydney Rabbitohs
Well, the Bunnies just keep on winning, winning and winning. They’re only loss was in golden point to Manly in Round Four and from then they haven’t looked back. Wayne Bennett faces one of his toughest assignments to date as Rabbitohs coach as he visits Bankwest Stadium with a very inexperienced side, which include two debutants.

SQUAD NEWS

Parramatta Eels
Coach Brad Arthur has swung the axe on some of his senior players after last weeks loss to Penrith, dropping Tim Mannah, Brad Takairangi, Daniel Alvaro and George Jennings out of the 17.
The inclusions feature Michael Jennings who will take his place at right centre, which means Blake Ferguson’s experiment at centre is over and as he goes back to the wing. Tepai Moeroa returns from concussion and takes his place at lock while Marata Niukore is relegated to the bench.

Parramatta Eels squad: 1. Clint Gutherson 2. Maika Sivo 3. Michael Jennings 4. Josh Hoffman 5. Blake Ferguson 6. Will Smith 7. Mitchell Moses 8. Kane Evans 9. Reed Mahoney 10. Junior Paulo 11. Shaun Lane 12. Manu Ma’u 13. Tepai Moeroa 14. Peni Terepo 15. Ray Stone 16. David Gower 17. Marata Niukore

South Sydney Rabbitohs
Souths have been in the news the past two weeks surrounding their ability to even have 17 fit players to name as injuries mount and four Bunnies selected for Origin.

After a year out of the game with a torn ACL, Adam Doueihi slots straight in at centre for Queensland’s Dane Gagai and Connor Tracey will make his NRL debut at five-eighth in place of the Blues’ Cody Walker. Billy Brittain will debut in the number nine kersey, while Tevita Tatola has been named at lock to cover for young star Cameron Murray. Bayley Sironen has been named to the bench to play his first game of the season.

South Sydney Rabbitohs squad: 1. Corey Allen 2. Mawene Hiroti 3. Ethan Lowe 4. Adam Doueihi 5. Campbell Graham 6. Connor Tracey 7. Adam Reynolds 8. George Burgess 9. Billy Brittain 10. Thomas Burgess 11. John Sutton 12. Sam Burgess 13. Tevita Tatola 14. Bayley Sironen 15. Mark Nicholls 16. Dean Britt 17. Liam Knight

HEAD TO HEAD
The Eels hold a slight lead in the head-to-head battle with 16 wins opposed to 14 with one draw. The Rabbitohs have won the past two encounters by an average margin of 11 points. This will be the first game between the two sides at the newly built Bankwest Stadium.

KEY BATTLE
The obvious choice is the battle between the halfbacks, Eels’ Mitchell Moses up against Rabbitohs Adam Reynolds. However, reports from sports media outlets say Reynolds is most likely to miss this week as he recovers from a badly bruised shin suffered last week. With that being said, in my mind the key battle this week isn’t between two players though for the whole South Sydney side. With four key players missing for Origin plus injuries to Burns, Johnston and Turner the depth of their list has been tested enormously. Connor Tracey, Billy Brittain, Adam Doueihi, Bayley Sironen will all be playing their first game of the season and for two their first NRL game so it’s exciting times though how are they going to fair on Friday night in front of a vocal Parramatta crowd? The onus will be on Rabbitohs leaders Sam Burgess, John Sutton and recruit Ethan Lowe to lead from the front and make sure the team is playing a high standard of football. Eels should like their chances to get back on the winners list against a very inexperienced Rabbitohs side.

THE IMPORTANT DETAILS
Date: Friday 31 May 2019
Venue: Bankwest Stadium
Kick-off: 7.55pm
Referee: Liam Nicholls and Gavin Badger

WHO WILL WIN?
Eels should win but won’t as the Rabbitohs will again guts out another quality away win. After this round the men from Redfern should be listed as Premiership favourites. Rabbitohs by 7.

MATCH PREVIEW | Penrith Panthers vs Manly Sea Eagles

TEAM FORM GUIDE
Penrith Panthers
The Panthers have really struggled for wins in recent times and find themselves in 15th position on the ladder after a horrendous run of losses. The good news is they found a way to win their matchup against the Eels last week 16-10 to take the first step in getting their disappointing season back on track.

Manly Sea Eagles
Manly have been a difficult team to predict this season. Over the past month they haven’t managed to back up any of their wins and have a followed a WLWL pattern. Last week they were comfortably beaten 36-18 by the Titans in their own backyard, so if they continue with their recent pattern, they should be in for a big performance this week.

SQUAD NEWS
Penrith Panthers
The Panthers welcome back James Maloney from injury at halfback in place of Nathan Cleary who is out on Origin duty. Centre duo Dean Whare and Waga Blake are both out injured, with Isaah Yeo returning to the side to take one spot and Brent Naden filling the other.

Panthers squad: 1. Dylan Edwards 2. Josh Mansour 3. Isaah Yeo 4. Brent Naden 5. Brian To’o 6. Jarome Luai 7. James Maloney 8. James Tamou 9. Sione Katoa 10. Reagan Campbell-Gillard 11. Viliame Kikau 12. Frank Winterstein 13. James Fisher-Harris. Interchange: 14. Mitch Kenny 15. Tyrell Fuimaono 16. Moses Leota 17. Tim Grant. Reserves: 18. Hame Sele 19. Kaide Ellis 20. Caleb Aekins 21. Liam Martin

Manly Sea Eagles
For Manly Jake Trbojevic and Daly Cherry-Evans will be away on Origin duty, which sees Cade Cust retain his spot in the halves for another week and Corey Waddell move to lock. Brad Parker is out with Abbas Miski coming onto the wing in his place, and Reuben Garrick moving into the centres.

Sea Eagles squad: 1. Brendan Elliot 2. Jorge Taufua 3. Dylan Walker 4. Reuben Garrick 5. Abbas Miski 6. Cade Cust 7. Kane Elgey 8. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. Apisai Koroisau 10. Martin Taupau 11. Joel Thompson 12. Curtis Sironen 13. Corey Waddell. Interchange: 14. Manase Fainu 15. Jack Gosiewski 16. Morgan Boyle 17. Taniela Paseka. Reserves: 18. Zach Dockar-Clay 19. Jade Anderson 20. Haumole Olakauatu 21. Lloyd Perrett

HEAD TO HEAD
These two sides have not played each other yet this year, and their last meeting was back in round 20 of last season, when the Panthers were able to record a remarkable comeback victory from 24-6 down to sneak home 28-24. Head to head the Panthers hold the slight edge in recent times, winning 17 out of the 32 total games played between the two. In Penrith however the Panthers have been a little more dominant, as Manly have only managed to win on five occasions from 15 games at Panthers Stadium.

KEY BATTLE
The battle of the halfbacks, James Maloney vs Kane Elgey. Two players who have a lot to prove, and both needing to step up in the absence of some Origin stars. Maloney is returning from injury just at the right time, as the Panthers need him to steer the ship in the absence of Nathan Cleary. He will have to be better than he has been so far this season. He currently leads the NRL in missed tackles (56) and penalties (13). Maloney also missed out on Origin selection this year, so the Panthers will be hoping that snubbing will motivate him to prove to the selectors that he’s not over the hill and can still play Origin calibre footy.

Kane Elgey has had to step up into the chief playmaker role for the Sea Eagles with two of their biggest attacking weapons sidelined in Daly Cherry-Evans and Tom Trbojevic. For the most part he has showed that he can shoulder the playmaking load and has been impressive in striking up a combination with Cade Cust in recent weeks. The fact Manly sit in sixth position on the ladder after 11 rounds with Cherry-Evans and Tom Trbojevic on the sidelines shows that he is handling the extra responsibilities well.

THE IMPORTANT DETAILS
Date: Thursday 30th of May
Venue: Panthers Stadium
Kick-off: 7:50pm AEST
Referees: Ben Cummins, Peter Gough

WHO WILL WIN?
Both teams need a win for different reasons. Manly are looking to keep their position in the top eight, and Penrith are looking to continue building momentum after getting an unlikely win last week against the Eels.  The loss of Jake Trbojevic will be a big one for Manly, and his absence gives a slight edge to Penrith in this one. The Panthers are back at home this week and will be very keen not to let their fans down again after some embarrassing performances of late. Panthers by 2.

MATCH PREVIEW | St George Illawarra Dragons vs Cronulla Sharks

TEAM FORM GUIDE
St George Illawarra Dragons
Before Anzac Day, the Dragons were on a four match winning streak and looking to cement a top eight spot. Since then they have lost four straight, culminating in a far from impressive performance against the Knights at Mudgee. Now, their position in the race for finals footy looks as shaky as their defence. They’ll be hoping for a few players to return from injury but need to be aware, that returning players aren’t necessarily the answer to a return in form.

Cronulla Sharks
The Sharks have been resilient and shown great depth and character in recent weeks. Despite losing a few star players, they have been able to win their games, including their two-point victory over the Melbourne Storm. They came down a little bit with their loss to the Sea Eagles but they’ll be eager to put that performance behind them and return to the form they were showing beforehand. And there would be no match better than this one.

SQUAD NEWS
St George Illawarra Dragons
Paul McGregor expressed that there would be changes to the side after their Round 10 loss and he has stuck with his words. Zac Lomax moves into the fullback position vacated by Matt Dufty. Euan Aitken moves back into his centre position while Jonus Pearson will make his Dragons debut in a straight replacement for Mikaele Ravalawa. Reece Robson takes the utility spot on the bench and Korbin Sims returns from injury to take the final bench spot.

St George Illawarra Dragons squad: 1. Zac Lomax 2. Jordan Pereira 3. Euan Aitken 4. Timoteo Lafai 5. Jonus Pearson 6. Jai Field 7. Ben Hunt 8. James Graham 9. Cameron McInnes 10. Paul Vaughan 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Tariq Sims 13. Blake Lawrie INTERCHANGE 14: Luciano Leilua 15. Jacob Host 16. Reece Robson 17. Korbin Sims RESERVES: 18. Josh Kerr 19. Mitchell Allgood 20. Mikaele Ravalawa 21. Matt Dufty

Cronulla Sharks
Coach John Morris has stuck with the same 17 that lost against the Sea Eagles on Sunday. He will be hoping the team will look to fire up after their disappointing performance. There’s a chance that Matt Moylan, named in the reserves, might be available for his return from injury.

Cronulla Sharks squad: 1. Josh Dugan 2. Sosaia Feki 3. Bronson Xerri 4. Josh Morris 5. Aaron Grey 6. Kyle Flanagan 7. Chad Townsend 8. Andrew Fifita 9. Jayden Brailey 10. Matt Prior 11. Briton Nikora 12. Kurt Capewell 13. Paul Gallen INTERCHANGE: 14. Blayke Brailey 15. Jayson Bukuya 16. Jack Williams 17. Braden Hamlin-Uele RESERVES 18: Scott Sorenson 19. Sione Katoa 20. Billy Magoulias 21. Matt Moylan

HEAD TO HEAD
The local derby between these two sides have produced some quality contests. And while last years matches went the way of the Dragons, they were both hard fought battles. None more than the round 2 clash, where the Sharks put in a nearly perfect first half performance, to watch their lead be chased down in the second half. But if the Dragons are looking to turn around their fortunes than they would most likely be looking for a repeat of their round 6 match, where they won that 40-20. There is strong history between these two sides and the Sharks will definitely be looking to fix the past few years results, with the Dragons holding a good recent record in the derby.

KEY BATTLE

The Dragons defence needs to stand up. They have leaked far too many easy tries in the last few weeks and their communication out wide appears lacking. The Sharks have some quick and creative outside backs that can tear the Dragons apart if they aren’t switched on. The side singled out the easy points they gave away off the back of mistakes and penalties as a part of their game that has dropped off. It will be this and other defensive deficiencies that the Dragons will be focusing on this week. The Dragons have the engine room to go the full 80 but have yet to prove it against any top quality opposition. And with Corey Norman and Gareth Widdop still a few weeks away from a return, Dragons half Ben Hunt needs to take the match and make it his own. The Dragons will need him to bring a strong kicking game and for him to keep taking on the line.

The Sharks will be looking for their outside backs to get in and help their forwards. They have some speed to burn out wide and if the pack can gain the early momentum, their speed up the middle could cause heaps of trouble for the Dragons. The Sharks will find a lot of success up the middle if they keep at it. Expect them to test the new combinations out wide too if they get an early chance at the Dragons line but if it doesn’t work out Cronulla won’t mind getting into a grind. The simple message from John Morris will be to bring the energy from the start and take it to the Dragons from the opening whistle.

THE IMPORTANT DETAILS
Date: Sunday 26th May
Venue: WIN Stadium
Kick-off: 4:05pm
Referee: Adam Gee, Gavin Badger

WHO WILL WIN?

The Dragons hit bottom last week and will be looking to restore pride in their team and in their supporters. The Sharks will be determined to avoid back-to-back losses and a slide of their own. There are big stakes in a match that doesn’t need much more conflict than there already is. The Dragons need to prove that they are still a top eight side and with the players they have, they will be fired up. DRAGONS BY 10.

MATCH PREVIEW | Canterbury Bulldogs vs Melbourne Storm

TEAM FORM GUIDE
Canterbury Bulldogs
Canterbury’s inconsistent form has made it difficult to get a gauge on them. Last weeks comeback win over the Titans was a season defining win to date though the real test comes this weekend as the second-placed Storm come to town.

Melbourne Storm
Melbourne scored twice in the last 10 minutes against the Tigers last week to steal the victory and would be looking to consolidate their top four position against the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon.

SQUAD NEWS
Canterbury Bulldogs squad:

1. Nick Meaney 2. Christian Crichton 3. Marcelo Montoya 4. Will Hopoate 5. Reimis Smith 6. Kieran Foran 7. Jack Cogger 8. Aiden Tolman 9. Jeremy Marshall-King 10. Dylan Napa 11. Josh Jackson 12. Corey Harawira-Naera 13. Chris Smith Interchange: 14. Rhyse Martin 15. Ofahiki Ogden 16. Danny Fualalo 17. Sauaso Sue Reserves: 19. Michael Lichaa 20. Lachlan Lewis 21. Kerrod Holland 23. Raymond Faitala-Mariner

Canterbury Bulldogs
Coach Dean Pay has made one change to the 17 that defeated the Titans last week with Christian Crichton replacing Jayden Okunbor.

Languishing in 14th placed the Bulldogs need to start winning multiple games in a row to have any chance to play finals.

Melbourne Storm squad:

1. Jahrome Hughes 2. Suliasi Vunivalu 3. Will Chambers 4. Marion Seve 5. Josh Addo-Carr 6. Cameron Munster 7. Brodie Croft 8. Jesse Bromwich 9. Cameron Smith 10. Nelson Asofa-Solomona 11. Felise Kaufusi 12. Kenneath Bromwich 13. Dale Finucane Interchange: 14. Brandon Smith 15. Joe Stimson 16. Tui Kamikamica 17. Ryan Papenhuyzen Reserves: 18. Justin Olam 19. Patrick Kaufusi 20. Tino Faasuamaleaui 21. Sandor Earl

Melbourne Storm
Christian Welch will be out for 4-6 with cartilage damage in his knee though can count himself lucky as it was initially diagnosed as an ACL injury.

Youngster Ryan Papenhuyzen goes back to the bench as Jahrome Hughes slots back to fullback after missing last week with concussion.

HEAD TO HEAD
Bulldogs hold a slight edge in the head to head battle 21 to 19 though the Storm have won their past three encounters. These teams met in round four this season at AAMI Park with Melbourne winning 18-16 in a classic match where both teams played well.

The Storm have played three times at Belmore Sports Ground and have a 33% win rate where as the Bulldogs have a 45% win rate from 20 matches.

KEY BATTLE

The battle of the five eighths will play a significant part in deciding who takes home the competition points as Kieran Foran lines up against Cameron Munster. Foran, who has just recently returned from injury has made five appearances this season scoring two tries and averaging 69.5 running metres a game. His combination with Jack Cogger is starting to gel and the team is performing better with Foran’s leadership on field and defence prowess proving to be vital.

On the other hand, Cameron Munster will make his 100th NRL appearance this Sunday. Munster has been exceptional this year leading the Dally M count after 10 rounds, scoring five tries and forcing drop outs most games. Munster, who is tipped to be named captain for the Maroons this Sunday when the teams are announced has taken his leadership to the next level at the Storm this season. Munster’s combination with Will Chambers and Josh Addo-Carr has been elite this year with Munster’s vision setting up Chambers last minute try last week to steal the victory. His battle with Foran will have an enormous influence in who wins this contest.

THE IMPORTANT DETAILS

2019 NRL – South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Wests Tigers Preview & Prediction

THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

Head Coach: Wayne Bennett

Starting 13: Allan, Hiroti, Lowe, Gagai, Graham, Walker, Reynolds, G. Burgess, Cook, T. Burgess, Sutton, S. Burgess, Murray – Interchanges: Tatola, Nicholls, Britt, Knight – Reserves: Gagan, Brittain, Sironen

Unavailable: Kurt Dillon, Adam Doueihi, Braidon Burns, Alex Johnston, Kyle Turner

South Sydney were able to grind out a solid win away at Canberra as the Rabbitohs ended Round 10 at the top of the NRL ladder with the Rabbitohs looking a formidable outfit so far this season.

The Rabbitohs have now won six consecutive games but look set to be without fullback Alex Johnston for 3-4 weeks after knee surgery with Corey Allan set to deputise in his preferred position after shifting there from the wing.

Head coach Wayne Bennett has kept the same 17 from last week’s win with Ethan Lowe starting at centre after Kyle Turner was a late withdrawal with Dean Britt once again on the bench.

WESTS TIGERS

Head Coach: Michael Maguire

Starting 13: Mbye, Jennings, Momirovski, Marsters, Thompson, Marshall, Brooks, Matulino, Farah, Twal, Matterson, McQueen, Eisenhuth – Interchanges: Liddle, Mikaele, Aloiai, Chee-Kam – Reserves: Nofoaluma, Taylor, Clark, Garner

Unavailable: Chris Lawrence, Josh Reynolds

Wests Tigers put in a gusty performance but Melbourne scored two tries in the final ten minutes to break their hearts last week with the Tigers facing another difficult contest here against the Rabbitohs.

The Tigers are nearing a fully-fit squad and will be boosted by the return of both Josh Reynolds and Chris Lawrence in the coming rounds but neither have made it for this week’s game.

Head coach Michael Maguire has made just one change to last week’s 17 with Paul Momirovski coming into the side for Mahe Fonua who has not even made the 21-man squad despite not being injured.

THE PREDICTION

South Sydney had to work hard for their victory over Canberra last week and their reward for that was topping the NRL ladder at the end of Round 10. They now host Wests Tigers who may still be dwelling on how they lost to the Storm last week with the Rabbitohs able to win again. They have looked very strong so far this season and find ways to win even when under the pump, as was the case at Canberra last week. The Tigers should be competitive but are likely to fall short.

2019 NRL – New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos Preview & Prediction

THE TEAM NEWS

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS

Head Coach: Stephen Kearney

Starting 13: Tuivasa-Sheck, Fusitu’a, Hiku, Herbert, Maumalo, Nikorima, Green, Afoa, Luke, Ah Mau, Papali’i, Harris, Burr – Interchanges: Tevaga, Blair, Sao, Lawton – Reserves: Beale, Pulu, Satae, Harris-Tavita

Unavailable: Nathaniel Roache, Agnatius Paasi

New Zealand Warriors made it back-to-back wins as they comfortably beat Penrith with the Warriors looking to put a big winning run together after their inconsistent start to the season.

Nathaniel Roache was a late withdrawal for the Warriors last week with Issac Luke given an opportunity to shine in his place and Luke will get the chance again as Roache misses a second week of action.

Bunty Afao will start this week in place of the suspended Agnatius Paasi and that means Adam Blair is afforded a recall on the bench with the rest of the side otherwise unchanged from last week’s win.

BRISBANE BRONCOS

Head Coach: Anthony Seibold

Starting 13: Boyd, Oates, Staggs, Shibasaki, Isaako, Milford, Dearden, Lodge, Turpin, Haas, Glenn, Gillett, Pangai Jnr. – Interchanges: Segeyaro, Fifita, Ofahengaue, Carrigan – Reserves: Segeyaro, Roberts, Perese, O’Sullivan

Unavailable: Andrew McCullough, Jack Bird, Tom Flegler

Brisbane produced their best performance under Anthony Seibold as they shocked the Sydney Roosters in a thrilling encounter and will now be looking to kick-on as they look to replicate that defensive effort.

James Segeyaro made a try-scoring debut for the Broncos last week after he was a late inclusion in the side and he will once again come off the bench for his new side as he looks to play himself into a longer deal.
The Broncos were set to field an unchanged 17 but Tom Flegler has picked up a minor injury in training and will not be risked with Patrick Carrigan coming onto the bench and Tevita Pangai Jnr. will start at lock.

THE PREDICTION

New Zealand Warriors and Brisbane have both won their last two games but one of those runs will have to end. Kodi Nikorima will have extra incentive to ensure that side isn't the Warriors following his mid-season switch from the Broncos and his performance will be vital for his new side. There was controversy regarding the way the Broncos allowed him to leave and he will be desperate to put on a show against his former employers. This game could go either way but if the Broncos can replicate last week’s level of performance then they should edge it.

2019 NRL – Canberra Raiders vs North Queensland Cowboys Preview & Prediction

THE TEAM NEWS

CANBERRA RAIDERS

Head Coach: Ricky Stuart

Starting 13: Nicoll-Klokstad, Simonsson, Croker, Cotric, Oldfield, Wighton, Williams, Papalii, Hodgson, Lui, Young, Whitehead, Sutton – Interchanges: Havili, Tapine, Soliola, Horsburgh – Reserves: Guler, Kris

Unavailable: John Bateman, Joey Leilua, Jordan Rapana

Canberra lost back-to-back games for the first time this season as they lost a high-octane encounter with South Sydney Rabbitohs and will be eager to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later.

The Raiders are short in the backs and will have another option moving forward with fullback Brad Abbey returning in the Canterbury Cup last weekend and he will be pushing for a first-team call-up over the coming rounds.

In further good news for Canberra, Joe Tapine has overcome his recent injury troubles and will be hoping he can have a prolonged run in the side as he slots back in on the bench with Sebastian Kris the man who drops out.

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

Head Coach: Paul Green

Starting 13: Kahu, Feldt, O’Neill, Opacic, Gela-Mosby, Asiata, Morgan, Scott, Granville, McLean, Cooper, Hess, Taumalolo – Interchanges: Baptiste, Dunn, Bolton, Molo – Reserves: Wright, McGuire

Unavailable: Murray Taulagi, Nene Macdonald, Te Maire Martin, Ben Hampton

North Queensland Cowboys have now won three of their last five matches following a gutsy win at home to Parramatta last week but they will need an improved performance to secure a win against Canberra.

The Cowboys will be without Ben Hampton for at least three months after the utility man suffered ruptured biceps against the Eels and his place on the wing will be taken by Gideon Gela-Mosby.

Josh McGuire is listed amongst the reserves following his recent injury and having made the trip to Canberra, he is expected to be a late inclusion in the side with one of Mitchell Dunn or Francis Molo likely to make way.

THE PREDICTION

Canberra pushed South Sydney Rabbitohs all the way last week but just fell short as they conceded a late try to lose their second successive game. They now host a North Queensland side that have improved recently but are still struggling in terms of performance. The Raiders have pushed both of their opponents very close in those losses and were also up against two of the best teams in the competition and with the Cowboys not posing as much of a threat, they should be able to get back to winning ways.

MATCH PREVIEW | Newcastle Knights vs Sydney Roosters

TEAM FORM GUIDE
Newcastle Knights
A month ago fans and media types were calling for Nathan Brown’s head as the Knights slumped to their fifth straight defeat, but they say a week is a long time in the NRL so four weeks is an eternity. Brown and his side are now flying high on a four game winning streak, the longest unbeaten run the club has had under Brown.

Sydney Roosters
Last season’s premiers had been enjoying an eight game winning streak before last week’s loss to the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, the Roosters have looked  battered and bruised in recent weeks and you could tell a loss was coming. Coach Trent Robinson wouldn’t have been too worried with the defeat, but no doubt he’ll be looking for his side to bounce back after enjoying a seven day break.

SQUAD NEWS
Newcastle Knights
Not surprisingly Brown has named the same 21 man squad from last week as he seems to have found the right balance and combinations after tinkering throughout the opening month and half of the season. It will be interesting to see though if Brown starts Kurt Mann at five-eighth again after the utility enjoyed a solid game there last week.

Brown will be hoping that the settled lineup he has picked in recent weeks will help his side as they come up against their biggest test of the season. Brown will also have one eye on upcoming fixtures for his side, with tough games against Souths, Melbourne and Brisbane to follow, Brown will know they need to win at least two of those matches otherwise his side will slip down the ladder.

Newcastle Knights: 1. Kalyn Ponga 2. Edrick Lee 3. Hymel Hunt 4. Jesse Ramien 5. Shaun Kenny-Dowall 6. Connor Watson 7. Mitchell Pearce 8. David Klemmer 9. Danny Levi 10. Daniel Saifiti 11. Lachlan Fitzgibbon 12. Mitchell Barnett 13. Tim Glasby 14. Kurt Mann 15. Herman Ese’ese 16. James Gavet 17. Sione Mata’utia 18. Josh King 19. Pasami Saulo 20. Jamie Buhrer 21. Mason Lino

Sydney Roosters
The Roosters welcome back winger Daniel Tupou and Captain Boyd Cordner to their side after both missed last week’s game as a precaution after picking up knocks against the Raiders in magic round. Cordner’s inclusion is massive for the club not only for his carries and tackles, but for his leadership on the field.

After leading the competition for most of the season Trent Robinson’s side have dropped back to second after last week’s loss, that won’t bother them too much as long as they stay within touching distance of their bitter rivals Souths. A couple of the Roosters’ big guns were a little quiet last week, so expect them to fire on Friday night especially considering Cooper Cronk has announced this will be he’s last season.

Sydney Roosters: 1. James Tedesco 2. Daniel Tupou 3. Latrell Mitchell 4. Joseph Manu 5. Matt Ikuvalu 6. Luke Keary 7. Cooper Cronk 8. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves 9. Victor Radley 10. Siosiua Taukeiaho 11. Boyd Cordner 12. Angus Crichton 13. Isaac Liu 14. Nat Butcher 15. Zane Tetevano 16. Sitili Tupouniua 17. Mitchell Aubusson 18. Lindsay Collins 19. Ryan Hall 20. Josh Curran 21. Brock Lamb

HEAD TO HEAD
The Roosters and Knights have enjoyed a healthy rivalry throughout the years, especially during the late 90’s and early 2000’s where these clubs met five times in finals football and once again in 2013. But in recent times the two clubs have been on much different paths as the Roosters have enjoyed two premierships and four minor premierships since Newcastle last made the finals in 2013, the Knights of course have collected three dreaded wooden spoons and have totally rebuilt the club.

So it’s no surprise that the Roosters have dominated the Knights in recent times winning ten of the last eleven matches between the sides, including both games last season. The boys from Bondi ruined former team mate Mitchell Pearce’s home coming in their round three clash winning 38-8, but the return game in Newcastle was much closer as the Knights came within two points of a massive upset.

KEY BATTLE
Newcastle head into this game full of confidence and fighting fit coming off their unbeaten run, and for coach Brown he couldn’t have wished for his side to be in better shape as they come up against their biggest test facing the champs. Although the Knights have been winning games and playing well the coach and playing group will know beating the likes of the Bulldogs and Dragons isn’t quite the same challenge as beating the Roosters.

Whilst the Roosters look to be showing the effects of a bruising start to the season which included a trip to England, they’re a battled hardened side filled with players who are used to blocking out the pain and tiredness that comes with being the defending premiers. Every side marks out the week they play the Roosters and saves their best for the tri-colours, but they know that’s just part and parcel of being the defending premiers.

They’ll know Newcastle are primed to take a shot at the champs and they won’t need any extra incentive coming off a loss and facing up against some former team mates with three ex-Roosters in the Knights’ lineup. This all promises to produce a top game taking into the account the points mentioned this game will serve up some mouth watering one-on-one match-ups.

Jesse Ramien v Latrell Mitchell will see two of the games youngest and most talented centres come face to face, with Ramien knowing a good showing could earn him a NSW Jumper alongside Latrell. The match-up in the front row between David Klemmer and Roosters’ pair Jared Waera-Hargreaves & Siosiua Taukeiaho will have a big say on the result of the game, whilst the clash between fullbacks James Tedesco and Kayln Ponga sees arguably the games two most exciting players show casing their skills.

But the big match-up is that of halfbacks Cooper Cronk and Mitchell Pearce, we all know the story that the Roosters decided to replace Pearce with Cronk last season and although Pearce is happy in Newcastle and is enjoying career best form in recent weeks, he would undoubtedly want to beat Cronk and the Roosters. With Cronk announcing he will retire at seasons end Pearce doesn’t have many chances left to one-up his former club and the man who replaced him.

THE IMPORTANT DETAILS
Date: Friday 24th of May
Venue: McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle
Kick-off: 7:55pm AEST
Referee: Ben Cummins and Peter Gough

WHO WILL WIN?
This game promises to be a cracker, with all the story lines of former players, Pearce v Cronk and the Knights run of form expect a tight encounter in front of a packed crowd in Newcastle. Newcastle will learn a lot about themselves and how far they’ve come, whilst the Roosters don’t like losing and especially two weeks in a row. Coming off a loss it’s hard to bet against the Roosters so I expect them to win a tight affair. Roosters 1-12

MATCH PREVIEW | Manly Sea Eagles vs Gold Coast Titans

TEAM FORM GUIDE

An injury-riddled Manly side continues to impress with a win against the Sharks at Cronulla in round 10. The visitors being more enthusiastic while playing simple, frustrated the home side with the Sea Eagles winning 24-14.

Gold Coast Titans
Gold Coast hosted Canterbury last round with the Titans jumping out the gate with a 16-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes. The Bulldogs crawled back into the match just before the half scoring two tries, the Titans were not able to put any more points on in the match with the Dogs finishing with two four-pointers to have the Coast lose 22-16.

SQUAD NEWS

Lloyd Perrett

Gold Coast Titans
Gold Coast changes see Moeaki Fotuakia regaining his starting spot at Jack Stockwell’s expense while Keegan Hipgrave and Shannon Boyd return via the bench.

Gold Coast Titans squad:1. Alexander Brimson 2. Anthony Don 3. Jesse Arthars 4. Brian Kelly 5. Dale Copley 6. Tyrone Roberts 7. Ash Taylor 8. Jarrod Wallace 9. Mitch Rein 10. Moeaki Fotuaika 11. Kevin Proctor 12. Bryce Cartwright 13. Jai Arrow 14. Tyrone Peachey 15. Shannon Boyd 16. Keegan Hipgrave 17. Jai Whitbread 18. Jack Stockwell 19. Max King 20. Ryley Jacks 21. Will Matthews

HEAD TO HEAD
In previous meetings these two sides have produced high scoring matches that usually have a team come from behind to win, which in both matches in 2018 the Gold Coast team were able to comeback to win 42-34 and 32-20. Out of the entirety of matches that the Sea Eagles have gone head to head with Titans its quite evenly split with Manly just ahead with 10 victories out of the 18 fixtures they’ve had over the years with a healthy rivalry being had with the two coastal teams.

The Manly side well in the top 8 this season is the 5th best defensively in the league currently, it was thw complete opposite case in defence last season which resulted in those heavy defeats to Titans. The last results in this matchup could be all but erased this season with the Sea Eagles favourites in this contest hosting the visitors in Gold Coast who have been conceding big scores to oppositions with little effect in defence.

KEY BATTLE
These two giant forward packs will without a doubt shape the outcome of the match with state of origin just around the corner, it will be a key matchup that could be seen also in that arena with the lock forwards of both these teams in the Titans Jai Arrow and Sea Eagles middle man Jake Trbojevic. These players are in superb form heading into the state v state competition with both putting in their all every week win or lose which these two have built their game around, whether its chopping tackles or tackle-breaking runs with quick play the balls, these superstars are in for one fierce dress rehearsal before origin.

Arrow has been a standout for the Gold Coast outfit with efforts throughout the ten rounds of footy that has passed showing why he will be one of the first picked for the Queensland Maroons. The Titans lock has improved in his fitness across the board being able to play big minutes for coach Garth Brennan while laying a platform for his halves to work off that many other sides would be envious of. Not only is Jai a hard man to tackle with 28 tackle breaks this season he also is equipped with deceptively good line speed which allows for hit-ups at the defence which creates plenty of post contact metres, these will also be the factors which Arrow will need to use to be at his best to influence the match against his opposing lock.

The Manly lock Trbojevic is well known around the league now for being one of the toughest players to come up against. The ball-playing ability of Jake this season has gone under the radar even more so with the forward a well established New South Wales Blue being able to time his runs and passing while throwing dummies to perfection making it a nightmare for the opponents to contain. The service that Trbojevic gives his halves is a two pass set play which has him digging into the line and becoming a third playmaker for the Sea Eagles, If the Manly side is to come away with the win Jake will want to switch through his playmaking abilites when in possession of the ball as much as possible while making his forty axing tackles he’s had on average.

THE IMPORTANT DETAILS
Date: Friday 24th May
Venue: Lottoland
Kick-off: 6pm
Referee: Matt Cecchin
WHO WILL WIN?
This fixture will hold many battle across the park with a new formed rivalry through multiple high scoring games but also the players that have come and gone from each club with Manly now playing three ex-Titans in Kane Elgey, Brendan Elliot and Morgan Boyle while Gold Coast picked up Brian Kelly to their roster before the season from the Sea Eagles. This game will have many ebbs and flows in attack but the trump card that the home side possesses in defence will most likely frustrate the playmakers of the Titans and limit their options, which in turn will allow Manly to counterattack and most likely post a fair few points and concede little points down their end.

The Titans are still finding their feet with new forwards coming in and out of rotation each week, they will struggle to contain what has been an impressive performance for the Sea Eagles forwards in the likes of Martin Taupau, Addin Fonua-Blake and Jake Trbojevic in the past month without key players. The match should be high scoring affair once again however there will be no mistake that the home side will come away with the win and potentially a big one at that.

Prediction: Sea Eagles by 18

THE TEAM NEWS
PARRAMATTA EELS

Head Coach: Brad Arthur

Starting 13: Gutherson, Sivo, Hoffman, Ferguson, G. Jennings, Smith, Moses, Paulo, Mahoney, Mannah, Lane, Niukore, Ma’u – Interchanges: Terepo, Alvaro, Takairangi, Gower – Reserves: Salmon, French, Evans, Kaufusi

Unavailable: Kaysa Pritchard, Nathan Brown, Dylan Brown, Michael Jennings, Tepai Moeroa

Parramatta's woes away from home continued as the Eels fell to another defeat on the road with North Queensland edging them last week but will hope a return to the Bankwest Stadium can help them get back on track.

Michael Jennings will miss another week with a calf injury but Maika Sivo will return from his one-match ban to face the Panthers in a much-changed backline with Blake Ferguson reverting to the centres and George Jennings switching wings.

Brad Takarangi drops to the bench along with Daniel Alvaro which sees Tim Mannah start in the front row whilst David Gower makes his return to the side on the bench with Oregon Kaufusi dropped.

PENRITH PANTHERS

Head Coach: Ivan Cleary

Starting 13: Edwards, Mansour, Whare, Blake, To’o, Luai, Cleary, Tamou, Katoa, Campbell-Gillard, Kikau, Winterstein, Fisher-Harris – Interchanges: Martin, Fuimaono, Grant, Leota – Reserves: Kenny, Sele, Ellis, Aekins

Unavailable: Tyrone May, Sam McKendry, Isaah Yeo, Malakai Watene-Zelezniak, James Maloney

Penrith ended Round 10 bottom of the NRL ladder after the Panthers suffered their eighth defeat of the season against New Zealand Warriors and have now lost five consecutive matches.

The Panthers will have to do without James Maloney for this game after he was handed a one-match ban for a late hit against the Warriors with Jarome Luai coming into the side whilst Ivan Cleary has made some more high-profile changes.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is dropped with Josh Mansour returning to the side whilst Reagan Campbell-Gillard is also back in the front row after sitting out last week and that sees Kaide Ellis drop out of the side.

THE PREDICTION
Nobody would have predicted Penrith would be sitting bottom of the NRL at this stage of the season but they have been shocking ten rounds in. They now travel to a Parramatta side that are unbeaten at their new stadium and will be hoping their form at home can continue. The Eels have produced two very strong home performances at the Bankwest Stadium and they will be confident of getting back on track against the out-of-sorts Panthers.

Cronulla Sharks vs Manly Sea Eagles NRL Preview and Team News - Sharks trying to overturn poor record against Manly

Despite only winning one of their last one of their last nine encounters against the Sea Eagles, the Sharks will be confident of coming away with the victory on Sunday.

Cronulla are beginning to round into form after experiencing a horror injury toll to begin the season, winning their last two games to rise up to sixth on the ladder.

Teams

Sharks: 1. Josh Dugan 2. Sosaia Feki 3. Bronson Xerri 4. Josh Morris 5. Aaron Gray 6. Kyle Flanagan 7. Chad Townsend 8. Andrew Fifita 9. Jayden Brailey 10. Matt Prior 11. Briton Nikora 12. Kurt Capewell 13. Paul Gallen 14. Blayke Brailey 15. Jayson Bukuya 16. Jack Williams 17. Braden Hamlin-Uele 18. Scott Sorensen 19. Sione Katoa 20. Billy Magoulias 21. Will Kennedy

Sea Eagles: 1. Brendan Elliott 2. Jorge Taufua 3. Dylan Walker 4. Brad Parker 5. Reuben Garrick 6. Lachlan Croker 7. Kane Elgey 8. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. Apisai Koroisau 10. Martin Taupau 11. Joel Thompson 12. Curtis Sironen 13. Jake Trbojevic 14. Manase Fainu 15. Jack Gosiewski 16. Corey Waddell 17. Morgan Boyle 18. Kelepi Tanginoa 19. Cade Cust 20. Taniela Paseka 21. Lloyd Perrett

The Sharks were trailing and behind the eight-ball for most of their clash last week with the Titans, but they showcased great determination to mount a late fightback and ultimately register a 26-18 win.

John Morris has name the same 17 players for this showdown, with Shaun Johnson still out with a hamstring injury.

Manly are also missing some of their biggest stars, with Daly Cherry-Evans and Tom Trbojevic still sidelined with injury, however Des Hasler does welcome back the likes of Jorge Taufua (calf), Addin Fonua-Blake (knee) and Lachlan Croker (hamstring) this week, while Dylan Walker also returns to play his first game of the season.

It’s been an excellent season so far for Hasler and Manly, but you got the feeling the wheels were going to fall off soon with their mounting casualty ward, and that’s what happened in Magic Round last week when they went down 26-10 to the Broncos.

However, the Sea Eagles will be buoyed by their great record over Cronulla and will fancy their chances to bounce back on Sunday. It promises to be a tight showdown, but the Sharks have got to start coming out on top in these matches at some stage, and on the back of a mini-winning streak, they should have the edge on Sunday.

Stats

Manly have won eight of their last nine meetings
Sea Eagles won their last clash 33-32 in R21 last year
Manly have scored 30+ points in their last two wins over Sharks

MATCH PREVIEW | St George-Illawarra Dragons vs Newcastle Knights

TEAM FORM GUIDE
St George-Illawarra Dragons
In Magic Round the Dragons went down to New Zealand Warriors by 26-18 despite being ahead 18-6 after twenty-two minutes. This was their third consecutive loss which includes the ANZAC Day loss to the Sydney Roosters, where the Red V showed plenty of courage but couldn’t get over the line.

Newcastle Knights
Newcastle are playing like a top eight side and have strung three straight wins together, starting with the Mitchell Pearce inspired win over Parramatta in late April and with their latest win last Saturday against the Bulldogs. The signs are looking good for the Knights with Pearce and Kalyn Ponga firing ahead of Origin selection in just over a week from now.

SQUAD NEWS

Matt Pritchard previews the St George-Illawarra Dragons and Newcastle Knights clash to be played in Mudgee on Sunday.

SQUAD NEWS
St George-Illawarra Dragons
There are no changes to Paul McGregor’s side the went down to the Warriors. Jonus Pearson and Korbin Sims have been cut from the nineteen-man squad announced on Saturday. Jai Field will play five-eighth with Corey Norman still missing with a cheekbone injury. With the Federal Court case going against Jack deBelin, he’s unlikely to return to the Red V anytime soon.

St George-Illawarra Dragons squad: 1. Matthew Dufty 2. Jordan Pereira 3. Zac Lomax 4. Timoteo Lafai 5. Mikaele Ravalawa 6. Jai Field 7. Ben Hunt 8. James Graham 9. Cameron McInnes 10. Paul Vaughan 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Tariq Sims 13. Blake Lawrie 14. Jeremy Latimore 15. Euan Aitken 16. Jacob Host 17. Luciano Leilua 18. Mitchell Allgood 20. Josh Kerr

Newcastle Knights
Nathan Brown goes in with the same trusted outfit that won at Suncorp Stadium last Saturday. Pasami Saulo and Jamie Buhrer cut from the squad twenty-four hours from kick-off.

Newcastle Knights squad: 1. Kalyn Ponga 2. Edrick Lee 3. Hymel Hunt 4. Jesse Ramien 5. Shaun Kenny-Dowall 6. Connor Watson 7. Mitchell Pearce 8. David Klemmer 9. Danny Levi 10. Daniel Saifiti 11. Lachlan Fitzgibbon 12. Mitchell Barnett 13. Tim Glasby 14. Kurt Mann 15. Herman Ese’ese 16. James Gavet 17. Sione Mata’utia 18. Josh King 21. Mason Lino

HEAD TO HEAD
St George-Illawarra Dragons in recent history hold a healthy record against the Newcastle Knights having won fourteen of the last eighteen games played since 2009. In round 3 this year it took Corey Norman’s field goal with two minutes left in Golden Point to separate the two sides.

KEY BATTLE
There’s a lot of anticipation about the opposing fullback’s leading into this game. Kalyn Ponga is a certainty for Queensland Maroons Origin selection. His transition to fullback came when these two teams met in round 3 in an epic 88-minute game where the Dragons won 13-12. Ponga set up two tries and made five tackle breaks in that effort. He’s the man the Dragons will need to contain. On the opposite site, Matt Dufty has made the most of his return to the NRL side with some solid performances. The match against the Roosters showed how good he is at the back with some fantastic attacking runs. The last three weeks he’s been consistently run for more than a hundred metres.

WHO WILL WIN?
Knights are the form team going into this clash. If they can keep the forward intensity up, and the Ponga-Pearce combination fire, the Knights might just beat their bogey side. Knights by 8

2019 NRL – Canberra Raiders vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Preview & Prediction

THE TEAM NEWS

CANBERRA RAIDERS

Head Coach: Ricky Stuart

Starting 13: Nicoll-Klokstad, Simonsson, Croker, Cotric, Oldfield, Wighton, Williams, Papalii, Hodgson, Lui, Young, Whitehead, Sutton – Interchanges: Havili, Kris, Soliola, Horsburgh – Reserves: Sezer, Guler, Hunt, Murchie

Unavailable: Joe Tapine, John Bateman, Joey Leilua, Jordan Rapana

Canberra produced a late fightback against Sydney Roosters but fell just short in their quest for the win as they lost by six points with the Raiders leaving themselves with too much to do against the league leaders.

Canberra's Jordan Rapana endured more bad luck last week as he went down with another injury but it wasn’t the ACL injury that the Raiders had feared with the winger suffering a PCL strain.

Bailey Simonsson comes into the side in Rapana’s place whilst Nick Cotric shifts inside to the centres with Michael Oldfield moving to the wing and Sebastian Kris will take Simonsson’s place on the bench.

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

Head Coach: Wayne Bennett

Starting 13: Allan, Hiroti, Turner, Gagai, Graham, Walker, Reynolds, G. Burgess, Cook, T. Burgess, Sutton, S. Burgess, Murray – Interchanges: Tatola, Nicholls, Lowe, Knight – Reserves: Britt, Sironen, Britt, Amone

Unavailable: Kurt Dillon, Adam Doueihi, Braidon Burns, Alex Johnston

South Sydney were too good for North Queensland as Cody Walker scored again to continue his sensational try-scoring form and maintain the Rabbitohs’ impressive run of form that has seen them win eight of their nine NRL games so far this season.

John Sutton and Kyle Turner were doubts earlier in the week for the Rabbitohs after they copped rib and head knocks respectively against the Cowboys but both seem to have recovered sufficiently.

Alex Johnston has undergone knee surgery and will be missing for around a month so Corey Allan shifts to fullback with Mawene Hiroti coming onto the wing whilst for the sixth week running, George Burgess will likely swap places with Junior Tatola before kick-off.

THE PREDICTION

Canberra pushed Sydney Roosters close last week and face another tough task as they host South Sydney. The Rabbitohs have lost just once all season but will know they have a game on their hands against a tricky Raiders side with this a difficult game to call. The loss of Alex Johnston poses a problem for Souths having had minimal disruption to their 17 all year but the Raiders still have several key players missing and that could prove to be the difference with the Rabbitohs able to edge this one.

2019 NRL – North Queensland Cowboys vs Parramatta Eels Preview & Prediction

THE TEAM NEWS

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

Head Coach: Paul Green

Starting 13: Kahu, Feldt, O’Neill, Opacic, Hampton, Asiata, Morgan, Scott, Granville, McLean, Cooper, Hess, Taumalolo – Interchanges: Baptiste, Dunn, Bolton, Molo – Reserves: Jensen, Gela-Mosby, Wright, Clifford

Unavailable: Murray Taulagi, Nene Macdonald, Te Maire Martin, Josh McGuire

North Queensland were outclassed by South Sydney as a slow start by the Cowboys dented any real hopes of winning the game but they will be hoping they can pick up a win back on home soil against a vulnerable Parramatta side.

Justin O'Neill and Jake Granville will both need to prove their fitness for the Cowboys after they copped head knocks last week but look set to play after both were named in the initial team list.

The Cowboys will roll with the same 17 unless there are any late changes although Granville has been named to start at hooker in place of Kurt Baptiste with the pair switching before kick-off last week and the same could yet happen this week.

PARRAMATTA EELS

Head Coach: Brad Arthur

Starting 13: Gutherson, G. Jennings, Hoffman, Takairangi, Ferguson, Smith, Moses, Alvaro, Mahoney, Paulo, Lane, Niukore, Ma’u – Interchanges: Terepo, Mannah, Moeroa, Kaufusi – Reserves: Evans, McIlwrick, Salmon, French

Unavailable: Kaysa Pritchard, Nathan Brown, Dylan Brown, David Gower, Maika Sivo, Michael Jennings

Parramatta were demolished by Melbourne as they capitulated with them conceding 11 tries in what was an embarrassing effort by the Eels with head coach Brad Arthur seeking an immediate response here.

The Eels will be without winger Maika Sivo after he copped a one-match ban by the judiciary for a poor tackle on Melbourne's Jahrome Hughes last week so George Jennings come into the side in his place.

Michael Jennings has a calf injury with Josh Hoffman taking his place in the centres whilst Jaeman Salmon has been dropped with Will Smith coming into the side at five-eighth and in the final changes for the Eels, Manu Ma’u and Reed Mahoney start with Tepai Moeroa and Peni Terepo dropping to the bench.

THE PREDICTION

Parramatta appear to be distracted by off-field issues with several issues swirling around regarding some high-profile out of contract players but they might be able to put that to bed for a while with captain Clint Gutherson committing to a new three-year deal. With that distraction behind them, it will be interesting to see how the Eels react following last week's demolition against Melbourne. The Eels haven’t won away from home since Round 2 and that poor record should continue here with North Queensland able to get the win.

THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE BRONCOS

Head Coach: Anthony Seibold

Starting 13: Boyd, Oates, Staggs, Shibasaki, Isaako, Milford, Dearden, Lodge, Turpin, Haas, Glenn, Gillett, Flegler – Interchanges: Carrigan, Fifita, Pangai Jnr., Ofahengaue – Reserves: Segeyaro, Roberts, Su’a, O’Sullivan

Unavailable: Andrew McCullough, Jack Bird

Brisbane secured an important win as they saw off a dogged Manly performance for just their third victory of the season but face an uphill battle if they are to secure a second victory in succession as they host the red hot Sydney Roosters.

The Broncos lost Jack Bird for the season with an ACL injury but James Segeyaro has joined the club to provide a further option at hooker in the absence of Andrew McCullough and he will make his debut despite being named amongst the reserves.

Bird’s injury offers a reprieve to Jamayne Isaako after he was a high-profile casualty last week as Anthony Seibold swung the axe and his return sees Gehamat Shibasaki switching to the centres.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS

Head Coach: Trent Robinson

Starting 13: Tedesco, Tupou, Mitchell, Manu, Ikuvalu, Keary, Cronk, Waerea-Hargreaves, Radley, Taukeiaho, Aubusson, Crichton, Liu – Interchanges: Butcher, Tetevano, Collins, Tupouniua – Reserves: Faamausili, Verrills, Lamb, Hall

Unavailable: Billy Smith, Brett Morris, Jake Friend

Sydney Roosters extended their winning run to eight matches after they held off a late Canberra fightback in the Magic Round last week as their superb form showed no signs of faltering.

The Roosters picked up knocks to Latrell Mitchell, Boyd Cordner and Daniel Tupou in last week's win with Cordner ruled out whilst Tupou will not feature either despite being named in the side.

Ryan Hall could make his long-awaited debut in the NRL in place of Tupou on the wing whilst Mitchell should be fine to play having come through the Roosters’ Captain’s Run without an adverse reaction.

THE PREDICTION

Brisbane improved to 3-6 but face a tough task to make it back-to-back wins here as they host high-flying Sydney Roosters. The Tricolours are on an eight-game winning streak with a record-breaking victory over the Broncos included in that run and they should be able to make it nine in a row. The Broncos did well to beat a gutsy Manly side and should be able to build some confidence on the back of that but this will be far more difficult. The Roosters are on fire and they will need to massively underperform to give the Broncos a chance to end their winning run.
