2019 NRL – Melbourne Storm vs Wests Tigers Preview & Prediction

THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE STORM

Head Coach: Craig Bellamy

Starting 13: Papenhuyzen, Vunivalu, Chambers, Seve, Addo-Carr, Munster, Croft, J. Bromwich, C. Smith, Asofa-Solomona, F. Kaufusi, K. Bromwich, Finucane – Interchanges: B. Smith, Welch, Kamikamica, P. Kaufusi – Reserves: Walters, Stimson, Faasuamaleaui, Earl

Unavailable: Scott Drinkwater, Tom Eisenhuth, Curtis Scott, Jahrome Hughes

Melbourne put to bed any off-field distractions when they hammered Parramatta as they were able to put several poor performances behind them in a huge win in which the Storm bagged 11 tries.

Storm centre Curtis Scott produced a brilliant display on his return to the side but suffered a suspected broken foot late in the game and is set for an extended spell on the sidelines whilst Jahrome Hughes will miss out with concussion.

Ryan Papenhuyzen impressed in the fullback role when Hughes was taken off the field last week and will have a chance to stake his claim for the #1 shirt in Hughes’ absence this week whilst Marion Seve comes into the centres with Patrick Kaufusi is the new name on the bench.

WESTS TIGERS

Head Coach: Michael Maguire

Starting 13: Mbye, Fonua, Jennings, Marsters, Thompson, Marshall, Brooks, Matulino, Farah, Twal, Matterson, McQueen, Eisenhuth – Interchanges: Liddle, Mikaele, Aloiai, Chee-Kam – Reserves: Momirovski, Taylor, Clark, Garner

Unavailable: Chris Lawrence, Josh Reynolds

Wests Tigers blitzed Penrith early on as they scored five tries in the opening 20 minutes to secure a comfortable victory and bounce back from their heavy loss to Sydney Roosters in their previous game.

Benji Marshall was in fine form for the Tigers having recovered from a hamstring injury and will continue in the halves this week with Josh Reynolds still not ready to return from his knee injury.

Wests head coach Michael Maguire has made just one change to his side from the win over the Panthers, bringing Josh Aloiai back on the bench after a concussion and he takes the place of last week’s debutant Oliver Clark.

THE PREDICTION

Melbourne were rampant as they punished a poor Parramatta side by racking up 64 points. It was a big turnaround from the Storm's recent poor performances and they will now look to kick on as they host Wests Tigers who also enjoyed a good win last week. It will be interesting to see how they go with a change in the spine but Ryan Papenhuyzen did a good job there last week when called upon. The Tigers were able to relax after they felt they had the game won in the first 20 minutes last week but face a very different task here and will fall short as Melbourne can make it back-to-back wins.
