Gold Coast Titans vs Cronulla Sharks NRL Preview and Team News - Titans and Sharks launch Magic Round
The first of eight games taking place during this weekend’s Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium sees the Sharks and Titans square off in a vital game for both teams.
Cronulla will be determined to build on their terrific performance against Melbourne last week, while the Titans need to bounce back from their poor defeat to the Cowboys.
It’s been an up-and-down season for the Sharks as they’ve battled various injuries to key figures, but last week they produced their best display of the season to conquer former Grand Final rivals Melbourne 20-18.
Cronulla were clinical as they restricted Melbourne to just two tries until the 76th minute, where the away side crashed over to make the scoreline closer than it deserved to be.
But can the Sharks deliver that kind of football two weeks in a row? John Morris has named Dale Copley to start on the wing in place of Phil Sami, while AJ Brimson comes in for the injured Tyrone Roberts.
Teams
Titans: 1. Michael Gordon 2. Anthony Don 3. Tyrone Peachey 4. Brian Kelly 5. Dale Copley 6. Alexander Brimson 7. Ash Taylor 8. Jarrod Wallace 9. Mitch Rein 10. Shannon Boyd 11. Kevin Proctor 12. Bryce Cartwright 13. Jai Arrow 14. Jesse Arthars 15. Moeaki Fotuaika 16. Keegan Hipgrave 17. Max King 18. Jack Stockwell 19. Jai Whitbread 20. Ryley Jacks 21. Brenko Lee
Sharks: 1. Josh Dugan 2. Sosaia Feki 3. Bronson Xerri 4. Josh Morris 5. Aaron Gray 6. Kyle Flanagan 7. Chad Townsend 8. Andrew Fifita 9. Jayden Brailey 10. Matt Prior 11. Briton Nikora 12. Kurt Capewell 13. Paul Gallen 14. Blayke Brailey 15. Jayson Bukuya 16. Jack Williams 17. Braden Hamlin-uele 18. Scott Sorensen 19. Sione Katoa 20. Billy Magoulias 21. Will Kennedy
Gold Coast appeared as if they could be starting to put something meaningful together after back-to-back wins over the Panthers and Knights, but after blowing a 14-point lead to lose to the Tigers, they went down 28-14 to the Cowboys last week.
It’s been the same story for the last few years now with the Titans - they show glimpses of something special, but at the end of the day, they lack the class to really challenge for a top eight spot.
Cronulla have won the last two matches between the teams, and after their respective performances last week, they will be confident of making it three. The launch of Magic Round might been the Titans will keep it close due to the atmosphere, but Cronulla are the better side and bring winning form into this clash - they should be make it back-to-back wins on Thursday night.
Stats
Sharks have won the last two games between the teams
Titans didn’t hit double figures in those matches
Titans were unbeaten vs Sharks in the four matches before those
